Laura Linney, best known for her strong but weak characters, is among of the most well-known American actors of today. Her father was a renowned playwright. However, she was raised as an only child with a single mother, a nurse. During the summers and with her father Linney discovered a love for the theatre. She eventually studied acting initially at Brown University then at Juilliard School. After just two short months after graduating the actress began her Broadway career. The following year she made her first appearance in the world of film and television. Since then, she has appeared in many films, TV plays and stage productions. She has been awarded numerous prizes in her long career. These include 4 Primetime Emmy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, three Academy Award Nominations, and five Tony Award Nominations. In spite of all the awards she has received the theatre is still her primary passion and she has continued to appear both in stage and screen.
